Summer Adventure Go on a Summer Adventure with the Art Explorers
Day Camp at the Waterloo Center for the Arts

Register your 9 to 13-year-old today for Art Explorers Day Camp every Wednesday July 9 through
August 6 from 8:00am to 5:00pm at the Waterloo Center for the Arts. Travel to different art museums, galleries
and studios each Wednesday and explore Iowa’s artistic side. Each day will bring a new adventure as you explore
exhibits, walk through sculpture gardens and get your hands dirty creating your very own masterpieces. Snacks will
be provided but remember to pack a colorful lunch! To register by July 6 call the Waterloo Center for the Arts at
319.291.4490 or stop in today! This camp is limited to 13 participants. For more information, visit
waterloocenterforthearts.org or check us out on Facebook.
July 9 I Des Moines, Des Moines Art Center
Spend the day at the Des Moines Art Center where you will walk through the sculpture garden and create
sun prints of items on a garden walk. On the ride home prints will be transformed into travel pillows.
July 16 I Cedar Rapids, Ceramic Center & Cedar Rapids Museum of Art
Tour where Grant Wood lived, create a fused glass pendant at the Ceramic Center and walk through the
galleries of a historic building where you will discover art over 1,000 years old!
July 23 I Elkader, Motor Mill Historic Site
Travel to the Driftless; the northeast corner of Iowa where glaciers forgot to walk. Here you will photograph
rare plants while hiking with photographer Larry Stone. Then weave a basket that will hold any trinkets you
might find.
July 30 I Dysart Main Street
Get your hands dirty by making paper with artist Jule McLaughlin. Then cross Main Street and learn how
another local artist welds old metal into sculptures. Following lunch, potter Doug Reynolds will give us a tour
of his farm and studio.
August 6 I Grinnell, Art Farm & Faulkner Gallery
Explore a farm where art is cultivated, learn about a photographer that only takes pictures of water, and
then use watercolors to create a piece of modern art. Throughout the day, water activities will keep you
cooled and refreshed.
