NAMI Family-to-Family 09/04/2014 - Class on Mental Illness for Family Members
NAMI Family-to-Family is a free 12-week class for family members who have adult relatives with mental illness. A four-year study funded by the National Institute of Mental Health found that family members who took the class had greater knowledge of mental illness, felt better able to cope, and had less anxiety.
It includes current research about mental illness; information about medications; effective treatments to promote recovery; problem solving and communication techniques; and coping with worry, stress, and emotional overload.
The class will run every Thursday from 6 to 8:30 pm starting September 4 and ending November 20. It will be at the First Congregational Church in Waterloo at 608 West 4th Street. Call the NAMI office by August 13 at 235-5263 if you have questions or want to register for the class.
