Iowa Promotes Parker to Defensive Coordinator_ Shuffles Staff
The University of Iowa has announced that Phil Parker has been promoted to be the Hawkeye football team’s defensive coordinator. Parker has coached the Iowa defensive backs for the past 13 seasons. He is of no relation to his predecessor, Norm Parker, who retired in December. Parker’s promotion is causing several shifts on the Hawkeye coaching staff. Linebackers coach Darrell Wilson will now coach the defensive backs, and offensive line coach Reese Morgan will switch sides of the ball to coach the defensive line. Morgan in effect takes over for Rick Kaczenski, who left to become the defensive line coach at Nebraska. The team is expected to name former Hawkeye LeVar Woods as linebackers coach, although that hire is not yet official. Iowa still needs to find a new offensive coordinator, following the departure of Ken O’Keefe, who has been hired as the wide receivers coach for the Miami Dolphins.
