Panthers End Wichita State's Win Streak
The UNI women’s basketball team ended Wichita State’s 20 game winning streak yesterday as the Panthers knocked off the MVC-leading Shockers 80-71. The Panthers raced out to an early lead, scoring nine of the game’s first ten points and eventually taking a fourteen point advantage near the midpoint of the first half. The lead tightened to seven by halftime, but the Panthers were able to keep Wichita at arm’s length for the entire second half. The Shockers never got closer than three points and the Panthers led by at least seven points over the game’s final six minutes. The win moves UNI to 9-4 in conference play and into second place in the league standings, trailing only Wichita. Four Panthers scored in double figures in yesterday’s win, led by a twenty-two point effort from Brittni Donaldson. Brooke Brown added 17 points, thirteen of them coming at the free throw line. UNI starts a three game road swing this Friday when they visit Loyola in Chicago.
